Tulsa Men's Tennis Tops Louisiana-Lafayette 4-3

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team defeated the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 4-3, Saturday evening at Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus. The win moves Tulsa to 9-2 on the season, it was also the fifth consecutive win for the Golden Hurricane. Director of Tennis Vince Westbrook said "Louisiana-Lafayette is good team now that it is at full strengthen and is much better than its record shows."
TU split the singles portion with the Ragin' Cajuns, winning at positions No. 1, 3, 4. No. 38-ranked Arnau Brugues easily defeated Arlen Domoney, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Victor Kolik took care of Piotr Olechowski in three-sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The clinching victory was by senior co-captain, Will Gray, who also clinched TU's victory over Arkansas. Gray beat Janusz Conradi, 6-4, 6-4. Of the Golden Hurricane's three defeats, two of them went to third-set tiebreakers. Sophomore Albert Jou fell to Murilo Martins, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7), while senior Ricardo Soriano was defeated by Piotre Banas, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7). Tulsa's other defeat was at the fifth position will Senior Andy Connelly falling to Jorge Delgado, 6-1, 6-1.
The Hurricane swept the doubles competition with each pair winning pretty easily. The 34th-ranked duo of Connelly/Cunningham defeated Delgado/Domoney, 8-4 at the No. 1 position. Brugues/Soriano, the 39th-ranked doubles pair beat Conradi/Olechowski, 8-3. Also winning 8-3 was the team of Kolik/Albert Sottocorno dispatching of Banas/Ryan Hess.
The TU men will next be in action on Thursday, February 28 against the No. 47 Oklahoma Sooners at 5 p.m. OU will bring in two ranked individuals, #34 Andrei Daescu and #96 Sergey Avdeyev and one doubles team, #40 Federico Chavarria/Andrei Daescu. Westbrook in previewing the Oklahoma match said, "We are ready for Thursday's match." TU is 6-2 against ranked opponents.
