Tulsa Women's Hoops Fall to UTEP, 65-50

El Paso, Texas - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 65-50 loss to #19/#23 UTEP on Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The Golden Hurricane fell to 10-19 on the season and 6-10 in Conference USA, while the Miners moved to 25-2 overall and 16-0 in the league.
Tulsa came out strong on defense, registering three steals in UTEP's first three possessions, but struggled offensively as Tatum Beer put up the Golden Hurricane's first points with a lay up at the 13:25 mark. Chanel Johnson pulled Tulsa to within five points one minute later with a jumper, but TU was held scoreless for over six minutes for the second time in the half to give the Miners a 23-4 advantage with 6:25 on the clock. Tulsa had 17 turnovers in the first half, and UTEP took a 35-15 advantage into the break.
In the second half, the Golden Hurricane out-scored the Miners 35-30, but couldn't overcome the first-half deficit. TU also forced nine UTEP turnovers in the final 20 minutes and 17 in the game.
ReShawndra Jackson had a team-leading and personal-best 19 points and four steals in the contest. Chanel Johnson and Larrissa Williams also scored in double digits with 11 and 10, respectively. Williams had a team-best eight rebounds, while Johnson had three blocks.
For the Miners, Kasia Krezel tallied 13 points and Natasha Lacy had 12 points to go along with six assists, three steals and two blocks. Timika Williams led UTEP with eight rebounds.
Tulsa will begin play in the Conference USA tournament on Thursday, March 6th. Game time and opponent will be announced later today.
