St. Louis, Missouri - The 23rd-ranked University of Tulsa men's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over #16 Illinois-Chicago on Friday night in St. Louis, Missouri. TU tallied a 1-1 mark in exhibition play.

"It was a good game against a really good team," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We could not have asked for better exhibition opponents. UIC possessed the ball well, but our defense played better today, especially in the midfield."

"Corey Albertson had a superb game," McIntosh added. "He scored a great volley off a cross from Jonathon Medcalf with about 25 minutes remaining in the game, which was just the icing on the cake as he had an excellent game."

Tyrel Lacey and Mason Gist each came up with a big save in the first and second half, respectively.

"We had much better individual performances, and we played a lot more disciplined," McIntosh said. "The upperclassmen were much more diligent than in the previous exhibition contest, and tonight Joe Salem, Chris Taylor, Eric DeFreitas and Chris Clements all showed strong team leadership."

Tulsa will open the regular season at home against Georgia Southern on Friday, August 29th. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
