Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's soccer team registered a 3-0 shutout over Hofstra in the Level 3 & Radisson Hotel Hurricane Classic on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 3-3-1 on the season, while the Pride fell to 0-4-1.
"I am really proud of the way we came out and played tonight," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We played a more physical game, had good movement in the midfield and upfront, and created chances. It is obviously good to get the shutout since it has gone the other way in the last three games."
Chris Taylor put TU on the board at the 9:12 mark as he took a penalty kick. Taylor's goal would be the only score of the first half, giving Tulsa the lead at the break.
In the second half, Jose Parada passed the ball up the field to Ashley McInnes who continued the ball to Corey Albertson for a goal in the 62nd minute, giving TU a two-goal cushion. The Golden Hurricane's final score was earned by Diego Henriquez who punched it in from 20 yards out on the ride side off a pass from Austin Neil.
Taylor, Albertson ad Henriquez' goals were all their first goals of the season.
TU out-shot Hofstra, 20-9, and had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Tyrel Lacey, who logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up four saves, including a big save to keep the early lead in the first half.
In the first game of the tournament tonight, SMU fell to Northern Illinois, 1-0, in an overtime decision. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, as the SMU-Hofstra contest begins at 11:30 a.m., and TU will face Northern Illinois at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Stadium.
