Tulsa Women's Hoops Drop, 68-60, Decision to UTEP

El Paso, Texas - Larrissa Williams and ReShawndra Jackson both scored in double digits for Tulsa, but it was enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 68-60 decision to UTEP on Thursday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. TU fell to 5-12 on the season and 1-4 in Conference USA, while the Miners moved to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Williams had a team-high 19 points, while Jackson added 14 and both of them pulled down a team-best six rebounds. Kara Vaughan added eight points, while Chanel Johnson and Tiffani Couisnard each scored six points.
With four tied scores and five lead changes, the first half was a close contest. TU got out to an early lead and had a game-half four-point advantage twice, but with 3:34 remaining UTEP's Sviatlana Trukshanina hit three trey's and spurred the Miners to a seven-point, 27-20, lead. Williams hit a jumper with just under two minutes to play, but neither team found a way to score in the remainder of the half and UTEP took a 27-22 advantage into the break.
TU came out in the second half and sparked a 9-3 scoring run, giving TU the lead once again, 31-30, at the 17:04 mark. Both teams traded baskets until Trukshanina hit a three with 12:29 left to play to put the Miners up 44-42. UTEP would hold on to the lead for nearly nine minutes off the clock when Jackson hit a three, giving a 56-54 lead to Tulsa, but Trukshanina hit another three to take the lead that the Miners would maintain for the remainder of the contest.
UTEP was led by Trukshanina who had a game-high 25 points, including seven three-pointers. Deitra Caldwell also scored in double figures with 15.
TU shot 44-percent from the field and 76-percent from the free throw line. UTEP out-rebounded the Golden Hurricane, 46-35, and had just 10 turnovers to Tulsa's 14 in the game.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, taking on Tulane at Fogelman Arena in New Orleans, La. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
