Tulsa, Okla. - The 13th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team swept past Saint Louis, 7-0, on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane (5-1) didn't drop a single set as they captured all three doubles and all six singles matches for the win.
Tulsa grabbed the doubles point with Alberto Sottocorno and Ashley Watling defeating Ken Nordheim and James McArthur, 8-5, in the No. 1 position, while Marko Ballok and Ross Cunningham dropped Jake Hendrie and Sean McManus, 8-5, in the No. 2 slot. Patrick Collins and Rusty Turpin picked up an 8-5 win over P.J. Hendrie and Adam Reeb in No. 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.
Tulsa turned it on in singles, playing very clean matches from the top to bottom of the lineup. Arnau Brugues easily knocked off Ken Nordheim, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 1 singles, and Philip Stephens defeated James McArthur by the same, 6-1, 6-1, score in the No. 2 position. Alberto Sottocorno beat Jake Hendrie, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 3 singles, and Marko Ballok bounced P.J. Hendrie, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 4 slot.
Patrick Collins and Rusty Turpin also scored singles victories to complete the 7-0 sweep of Saint Louis.
Tulsa's second match of the day against Oral Roberts was cancelled.
The Hurricane returns to action at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 against 30th-ranked Notre Dame at the Case Tennis Center. The match marks the first of two rounds hosted at the University of Tulsa as a part of the ITA National Indoor Team Championships. Play concludes on Sunday with the second round and consolation matches.
