TULSA, Okla. -SMU scored 20 points in the second half to break a 7-7 halftime tie and go on for a 27-13 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in front of 21,714 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Tulsa dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the mustangs improved to 4-4 and 3-1 in Conference USA action. The Hurricane dropped its third straight game, the most since a three-game losing streak at the start of the 2004 campaign.

Tulsa's offense amassed 322 yards, while SMU totaled 429 yards, exploding for 265 second-half yards. SMU's Kyle Padron completed 20-of-30 passes for 354 yards and two TDs in his first career start. Tulsa's Jacob Bower threw for 206 yards and one TD in his most extensive action in his two-year career for the Hurricane.

"It was a very disappointing day for us. SMU did an awesome job today. We didn't player very well in all three phases. We were dismal on third down and we couldn't get any rhythm offensively," said Tulsa Head Coach Todd Graham.

Tulsa cut into SMU's 20-7 lead when Bower led the Hurricane on a six-play, 80-yard scoring drive that saw Bower throw the final 13 yards to tight end Jake Collums. Kevin Fitzpatrick's PAT attempt was blocked by Margus Hunt, his fourth blocked kick of the season.

Szymanski put the Mustangs ahead 20-7 on a 31-yard field goal just into the fourth quarter at the 14:57 mark. SMU scored again with just 1:57 left for its final 14-point margin of vicory, capping a 56-yard, seven-play drive, on a Zach Line two-yard run.

The Mustangs scored 10 points in the third quarter for a 17-7 lead. SMU connected on a 35-yard field goal by Matt Syzmanski at the 3:20 mark of the third period giving the Mustangs its 10-point lead.

SMU took a 14-7 lead at the 8:58 mark of the third quarter as the Mustangs marched 98 yards in eight plays, as Padron passed 36 yards to Shawnbrey McNeal. On a third-and-eight at the their own two-yard line, SMU's Zach Line went eight yards for the a first down, and then the Mustangs covered the remaining 88 yards for the score

There was not much offense in the first quarter by either team combining for 81 yards, 53 yards by SMU and 28 yards by the Hurricane. Each team had turnovers on their first possession, as SMU also turned the ball over on their second possession.

Tulsa ended the scoring drought at 9:01 on the clock as Charles Opeseyitan raced 13 yards for a 7-0 Hurricane lead, capping a 76-yard, seven-play drive, as the Hurricane used four different quarterbacks on that possession.

SMU tied the score at 7-7 with 4:22 remaining in the second quarter as Padron threw to Cole Beasley who raced down the SMU sidelines for most of the 49 yards. The drive went 57 yards in three plays.

Other than Tulsa's 76-yard scoring drive, the Hurricane gained just 52 more yards in the first half for a 128-yard total, while the Mustangs totaled 168 first-half yards.

The first half ended at 7-7.
