Tulsa Post-Game Quotes vs. Chicago State
Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik:
Opening statement...
"I want to give Chicago State a lot of credit. They played really hard and they are a really good rebounding team. They have had a tough go at by playing all of these road games. I think they are going to go on and win some games and I wish them well.
"Overall, it was a really good game for us. We are shooting the ball well from the field and from three-point range. As good a rebounding team as they are, the long shots that became long rebounds that are tough to get, it was good to be plus nine on the rebounding margin. That is important to us. Then another big stat is our assist-to-turnover ratio. I told Jerome that I was mad at him for missing that lob dunk. That would have put us even for the year on assist-to-turnover. If you are a pretty good team you need to be even.
"One thing we need to work on is free throw shooting. That would be the Achilles heel to today. We didn't shoot free throws very well."
Senior Ben Uzoh
On avoiding complacency...
"It's tough not to get complacent. You got to focus in and try to build good habits because we're going to play tougher opponents. It's kind of hard to get up, but we're strong mentally."
On coach's advice during the game...
"He [Coach Wojcik] challenged us to pick it up defensively and stay to our principles and keep getting rebounds."
On 3-point shooting for team...
"We're going to get open shots when they've got to focus in on Jerome, Stephen and Joe. We've got to be ready to shoot and tonight we were."
On TU's defensive performance...
"We hang our hats on the defensive end. If we can't score the ball, we definitely want to stop the other team from scoring. We were a little up and down as far as our defensive intensity, but overall I think we did a good job."
Senior Jerome Jordan
On his performance...
"Before the game I was just fed up a little bit with seeing all the different defenses. I decided that no matter what they threw at me defensively, I was going to play as hard as I can and no matter what the outcome was, I was going to be happy with it."
