Tulsa's 19th-ranked men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 overtime decision to ninth-ranked Northwestern on Sunday afternoon in the NIU Invitational in DeKalb, Illinois. The Golden Hurricane fell to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Wildcats moved to 2-1-1 overall. TU's losses have come to No. 1 Akron and No. 9 Northwestern.

"We played pretty well," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We possessed the ball better today than we had in our previous four games. We created enough chances to win the game and we fought hard in overtime, but we were just unfortunate to lose the game."

Piero Bellizzi put NU on the board first at the 22:42 mark, but Corey Albertson evened the score just over 10 minutes later as he headed in a corner kick taken by Chris Taylor.

After the break, Matt Eliason again gave the Wildcats the advantage as he knocked in a penalty kick in the 66th minute, but Jose Parada knotted up the score as he headed in a loose ball in the box at the 74:47 mark forcing the game into overtime.

Eliason scored the game winner in the 99th minute, to give the Northwestern the 3-2 victory.

Ashley McInnes led TU's attack with three shots, while Parada and Hunter Christiansen had two attempts apiece. Andy Aguilar earned five saves in goal on the day for 20 on the season.

NU had a 13-10 advantage in shots, an 8-7 lead in shots on goal and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Friday, Sept. 18th, as TU takes on CS-Northridge in Dallas, Texas at the SMU Classic.
