Tulsa Women's Hoops Fall to UTEP, 59-51

Larrissa Williams posted her 36th career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 59-51 decision to UTEP on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane fell to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in Conference USA, while the Miners moved to 11-7 on the season and 3-1 in the league.
Chanice Scott added nine points, Taleya Mayberry posted seven and Tiffani Couisnard tallied six points in the contest. Couisnard also pulled down seven boards, while Mayberry and Scott earned three assists apiece.
Tulsa struggled in the first half, shooting 24-percent from the field and just 8.3-percent from behind the arc, while going 6-for-8 from the free throw line. The Miners, which shot 48-percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, took a 36-19 advantage into the break.
In the second half, TU's shooting improved and the Golden Hurricane pulled to within six points, but they couldn't make up the first-half deficit.
UTEP out-rebounded Tulsa, 40-35, and edged TU in steals (8-6), but both teams had 16 turnovers in the contest.
The Miners were led by Dietra Caldwell with 13 points, while Kristine Vitola and Briana Green each totaled 10 points. Anete Steinberga and Vitola both recorded seven rebounds.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23rd against Marshall. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. and will follow the TU men's game against Rice at 2:00 p.m.
