Tulsa Women to Host Marshall in Double-Header Saturday

The TU-MU contest is part of a double-header, so fans that purchased a men's ticket to the 2:00 p.m. game against Rice can stay for free for the women's contest.

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team will host Marshall beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23rd at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The TU-MU contest is part of a double-header, so fans that purchased a men's ticket to the 2:00 p.m. game against Rice can stay for free for the women's contest. Both contests are part of the annual Coaches vs. Cancer campaign. Fans will be able to donate money for the fight against cancer at the marketing table located in the west concourse.

The Golden Hurricane (6-9, 0-4 C-USA), which ranks as Conference USA's top team for rebounding offense (45.1), blocked shots (5.0) and offensive rebounds (17.7), and is second in field goal percentage defense (.365), rebounding margin (+4.3), defensive rebounds (27.6) and offensive rebound percentage (.408), will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

Senior Larrissa Williams is leading TU with 15.7 ppg, while freshman Taleya Mayberry also averages double-digit points with 11.6 ppg. Williams pulls down a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game and has 36 blocks, Mayberry has 50 assists and owns 33 steals, and Jermaine Kermis has dished out 46 assists and has 28 steals.

The Thundering Herd owns an 11-7 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the league, and is coming off a 74-42 loss to West Virginia on Wednesday. Marshall's leading scorer and rebounder, Tynikki Crook, is expected to miss the contest due to an injury. Chantelle Handy and Alyssa Hammond net double-figure points with 11.0 ppg and 10.9 ppg, respectively. Hammond pulls down 6.1 boards per game, Mystee Dale has 60 assists and Tania Walters has 25 steals on the season.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools, with the series tied, 2-2. The Golden Hurricane won the first two meetings, while Marshall has won the last two contests, including a 51-37 victory last year.
