"I thought we started the game really well," Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "Ashley scored a great goal and then UCF picked up the pace in the latter part of the first half. They caused us some troubles, but we were able to create some chances and Hunter and Chris were very good tonight. The championship game will be a tough game. USC played well tonight. They are well organized and it will be a real test, but we are looking forward to the opportunity to play for the championship again."
Ashley McInnes put Tulsa on the board with just 4:19 ticked off the clock as his shot deflected off UCF keeper Shawn Doyle to give TU an early 1-0 lead. This was McInnes' 10th goal of the season and 28th of his career.
Nik Keown-Robson evened the score with a goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from Warren Creavalle, and the game remained tied at the break, 1-1.
Hunter Christiansen scored the game-winner and his first goal of the season in the 61st minute from the top of the box.
McInnes led TU with three shots, all of which were on goal, while Corey Albertson, Chris Taylor, Blaine Gonsalves and Christiansen all had two attempts. Ray Clark logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
The Knights outshot the Golden Hurricane, 19-15, but TU had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. UCF also had an 8-6 lead in corner kicks.
