Arevalo Named C-USA Athlete Of The Month

IRVING, Texas - Sophomore Marcelo Arevalo of The University of Tulsa men's tennis team was named one of three C-USA Athletes of the Month for his performance in October, the league announced today.
The Sonsonate, El Salvadore, native posted the biggest win of his career as he defeated No. 1 John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee in the first round of the Main Draw at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships.
The 7-5, 6-3 victory over the defending champion occurred Oct. 7 and pushed Arevalo into the second round of the tournament. The sophomore recorded a 4-2 mark in singles and a 3-2 record in doubles in October.
He reached the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles at the ITA Central Regional Championships (Oct. 23-24). Arevalo receives the conference honor for the first time of his career.
He is the reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and he was named C-USA Player of the Week on three occasions during his rookie campaign.
Also honored by the conference were SMU's Marta Lesniak and Matthew Gladstone of UCF.
