Tulsa freshman Kristina Merkle finished in 11th place at the prestigious PING/ASU Invitational.

Tempe, Arizona - Tulsa freshman Kristina Merkle finished in 11th place at the prestigious PING/ASU Invitational, a tournament featuring 11 of the nation's top-25 teams. She led the Hurricane women to a 14th place performance on the par-72 Karsten Golf Course. Tulsa shot a final round 304 for a 903 total.

Merkle, ranked 85th nationally in the Golfstat ratings, led the individual race for both the first and second rounds, but carded a five-over par 77 today for her 11th place performance.

UCLA shot nine-under par on the final day to post a one-stroke lead over host and second round leader Arizona State, The Bruins shot 279 on Sunday for a 856 total, while Arizona State carded a 292 score for a final 54-hole score of 857. Another fellow Pac-10 Conference member Southern Cal was two strokes behind the team champion with an 858 total.

Tulsa sophomore Sarah Elliot carded her second straight score of 74 today and finished in 55th place with a 10-over par 226 total. Fellow sophomore Shu-Yin Liu finished in 65th place with a 231 total after today's score of 77. Another sophomore, Marita Engzelius, scored a round of 76 for a 236 total and finished in 65th place. Abby Alford finished in 87th place with a total of 243 after a round of 78 today.

Individually, UCLA's Stephanie Kono fired a six-under par score of 66 for a 207 total and claimed a one-stroke lead over Southern Cal's Jennifer Song to capture individual medalist honors.

Tulsa will be in action next at the Conference USA Championship, April 18-20, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
