Tulsa Women Golfers in 19th Place at NCAA Central Regional

Columbus, Indiana - The Tulsa women's golf team carded an opening round of 324 and sits in 19th place in a 24-team field after the opening round of the NCAA Central Regional at the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Club.
Defending national champion Arizona State holds a two-stroke lead over fellow PAC-10 foe Southern Cal, 297 to 299. Purdue (303), Oregon and Oklahoma State (305), New Mexico (306), Florida State (308), Mississippi and Kent State (309) and Michigan State (310) round out the top-10 teams.
Tulsa sits 15 strokes out of eighth-place, as the top-8 teams after three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Tulsa sophomore Sarah Elliot carded a first round five-over par 77 and sits in a 27th-place tie. The remainder of the Hurricane lineup was unable to crack 80 on the opening day of regional play. Sophomore Shu-Yin Liu is in 69th-place with a score of 81, while sophomore Marita Engzelius and freshman Kristina Merkle are tied for 86th place with totals of 83. Senior Abby Allford shot a round of 84 and is in 94th place.
Individually, Purdue's Thea Hoffmeister and Kendra Little of Oregon each carded 70 to tie for first place.
The tournament will resume on Friday with 18 holes, while the final round will be played on Saturday.
