Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team will play a 24-game schedule in 2010-11, including 10 regular season contests at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, as announced today by Head Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson.
The schedule features eight postseason tournament teams from a year ago, including Emporia State (NCAA), Tulane (NCAA), East Carolina (WNIT), Houston (WNIT), Oral Roberts (WNIT), SMU (WNIT), Stephen F. Austin (WNIT) and Memphis (WBI).
TU will open the season at home against the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions Emporia State on Nov. 13th. The Hornets posted a 30-5 mark last season and won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship. This will be the first meeting between ESU and Tulsa.
The Golden Hurricane will then begin a five-game road swing against cross-town rival Oral Roberts on Nov. 16th. The Golden Eagles captured the Summit League Championship, advanced to the WNIT First Round and tallied a 23-10 overall record a year ago. ORU edged Tulsa 74-69 last season.
TU will play in the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 26th and 27th, taking on host UTSA and North Texas, respectively. The Roadrunners captured a 63-54 win in the last meeting two years ago, but the Golden Hurricane maintains a 5-2 advantage in the series. This will be just the fourth meeting between TU and the Mean Green and the first since 1997, with Tulsa winning all three previous matchups.
The Golden Hurricane will continue its road swing with a pair of games in Philadelphia, Pa. Tulsa will face Drexel on Dec. 2nd and La Salle on Dec. 5th. This will be the first meeting with the Dragons, but TU and the Explorers met for the first time last season, as Tulsa picked up a 62-39 win at home.
TU returns home to host Texas A&M International, another team the Golden Hurricane will meet for the first time, on Dec. 11th, before taking a three-week hiatus. Tulsa will return to action on Jan. 2nd at Stephen F. Austin to close out the non-conference slate. TU and SFA have met eight times, with the series tied 4-4.
The Golden Hurricane opens league play at Houston on Jan. 6th and returns home to host Rice on Jan. 9th. Tulsa maintains a 6-4 lead in the series with UH, while the Owls have won 20 of the previous 30 meetings against TU. It was the Golden Hurricane, however, that came up with a win over Rice in the last meeting, an 80-46 victory in Tulsa last year.
TU hosts SMU on Jan. 13th and then takes to the road to face Southern Miss on Jan. 16th. The Mustangs have claimed 21 victories in 32 games with the Golden Hurricane, but both teams won on their home court last year. Tulsa has won six of the seven meetings with the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Hurricane will take a week off before facing Tulane, which won the C-USA regular season and tournament titles last season, on Jan. 23rd in Tulsa. The Green Wave and TU split last year as both teams picked up road wins.
Tulsa will travel to UTEP on Jan. 27th and to Rice on Jan. 30th. The Miners have a 14-10 advantage in the series.
Memphis comes to town on Feb. 3rd followed by UCF on Feb. 6th. The Tigers tallied a 20-14 record last year and finished as the WBI Championship Runner-Up. Memphis picked up a win over TU last year, taking a 4-3 lead in the all-time series, while the Knights also recorded a win a year ago to earn a 3-2 advantage in the series with the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa travels to UAB on Feb. 10th and SMU on Feb. 13th, before returning home to host Houston on Feb. 17th and Marshall on Feb. 20th. The Blazers have picked up a win in the last seven meetings for a 7-1 advantage against TU, while the Thundering Herd has posted a 3-1 lead in the series with the Golden Hurricane.
TU will travel to East Carolina on Feb. 24th and Tulane on Feb. 27th, and then close out the regular season at home against UTEP on March 3rd. Tulsa has won four of the six meetings with the Pirates, including wins in the last two matchups.
The Golden Hurricane will make the trip to UTEP for the 2011 C-USA Women's Basketball Championship, March 9-12, at the Don Haskins Center.
