SAN FRANCISCO - Tulsa beat San Francisco, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-20), Saturday afternoon at the Powerade/Asics Challenge.
Tyler Henderson had 21 kills and eight digs and Diana Silva had 10 kills and eight digs. Elizabeth Kale hit .417 with seven kills and Hannah Stout hit .357 with five kills and no errors. Jordan Clampitt recorded 47 assists and 15 digs. Kellie Culbertson tallied 15 digs and
Tulsa hit .264 (47-14-125) with 47 kills, 44 assists, five service aces and 64 digs, while San Francisco hit .143 (33-16-119) with 33 kills, 30 assists, three service aces and 55 digs.
The first set was tight, with 12 ties and six lead changes, and Tulsa found itself down late, 20-16. However, a 4-0 run tied the score. After two straight points by the Dons made it, 22-20, the Golden Hurricane scored five of the final six points to win the set, 25-23.
Tulsa dominated the next two sets. In the second, the Golden Hurricane jumped out to a 7-1 lead, and extended it to 16-6. TU cruised to a 25-11 set win.
The Hurricane took a 6-0 lead in set three with five Henderson kills and an Adams service ace, and never lost the advantage in the set. Tulsa led, 10-4, but USF fought back to within two points at 12-10. However, that was as close as the Dons got, as TU climbed back to a 15-10 lead and coasted to the 25-20 win.
The Golden Hurricane returns home for the first time this season at it plays host to the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational Sept. 10 and 11 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Friday, TU faces Arkansas State at 11 a.m., Arkansas State plays Lamar at 3 p.m., and Tulsa plays Lamar at 7 p.m. Arkansas State and Lamar face off again Saturday at 1 p.m.
