Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik
Opening Statement...
"That was a tough way to lose. You can talk about the last play where we made a mistake by leaving Robert Nyakundi open. We were fouling. I'm not sure I believe in that. But it really started for us at the end of the first half. We got stagnant. We started taking some bad shots. We didn't start the second half very well. We never established Steven Idlet in the post. Looking at the stats, turnovers lead to the loss, and the missed free throws down the stretch do as well."
Tulsa Senior Guard Justin Hurtt
On SMU's second half defense...
"They really pressured us. They did a good job on defense. They held us to 58 points. We held them under 60 and lost the game. We both played good defense, but they made more plays than we did."
SMU Head Coach Matt Doherty
Opening Statement...
"We're very fortunate to come out of here with a win. This is a tough place to play, and a program I have great respect for. We haven't beaten Tulsa yet, and it's something I'm really proud of. I think the MVP of this game is our blue team (practice team) that are sitting out. They tried to simulate what Tulsa does and did a great job of preparing us. Though it didn't look that way in the first 5 minutes because we couldn't locate any shooters. Our team just hung in there. We're pretty scrappy. We missed some threes that we would normally hit. And my assistant made a suggestion, at half time, of going triangle-and-two defense, because we weren't locating Hurtt and Haralson. We thought that broke the rhythm of Tulsa. We just dug in and stuck with it."
"That last possession, Jeremiah made a smart play, and found Robert. And as the ball was in the air I knew it was going to hit. He's one of the best shooters I've coached. We just feel really good rolling out of here with a win."\
