Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The Tulsa men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Green Bay on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Tulsa fell to 4-7 on the season, while Green Bay moved to 5-5-1 overall.
"We started out well and we were doing a good job defensively in the first half," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We were combining well and creating chances, and we had good passes and good play. We knew they were going to be a physical team, but in the second half we were second-best every time. They were first to the ball and won 90-percent of the challenges, and we physically didn't compete. Hopefully this is something we can learn from."
Corey Albertson put Tulsa on the board in the 33rd minute as he punched in a goal from eight yards out on the right side off a pass from Tony Rocha. Kyle Cumings then gave TU a two-goal cushion just 20 seconds before the break off a pass from Albertson.
Sebastian Xiong got a goal for Green Bay at the 55:01 mark and then Kirby Allen tied the game at 2-all in the 58th minute. AJ Patterson scored the game-winning goal for the Phoenix at the 83:21 mark off an assist from Stuart Grable.
Omar Mata and Rocha each had a team-best four shots, while Albertson added two attempts. Michael Murray logged all 90 minutes in goal and had five saves.
Green Bay had an 18-16 lead in shots, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal, and edged TU, 4-3, in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12th against Kentucky. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Lexington, Ky.
