Women's Golf Finishes Second at Betsy Rawls Invite

AUSTIN, Texas - Junior Kristina Merkle tied for sixth place with a three-round score of 218 to lead the Tulsa women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the par-72, 6,244-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
The Golden Hurricane shot a 298 - the second-best team score of the day - in the final round to finish with a tournament-total 892 and tie with Florida and Pepperdine for second place on the team leaderboard. Texas won the team title with a team-total 880 score.
Merkle shot a 74 Wednesday to total 218 and tie for sixth place. Nicole Vandermade of Texas won the individual title with a three-round 214 after shooting 69 in the final round.
Senior Sarah Elliot tied for 15th after carding a 76 in the third round for a 224 total. Senior Marita Engzelius and freshman Anna Young both tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 226. Engzelius carded an even-par 72 and Young shot a 76 on Wednesday. Sophomore Kayla Riede posted an 84 in the third round to total 243 for the tournament.
This is the final tournament of the fall season for the Golden Hurricane, which returns to the course Feb. 26-28 for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans.
