Birmingham, Ala. - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 59-36 decision to UAB on Thursday night at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala. TU fell to 5-13 on the season and 1-9 in Conference USA, while the Blazers moved to 12-11 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Virginia DeWare and Taleya Mayberry had a team-best seven points apiece, followed by Chanice Scott, Loren McDaniel and Tatum Beer with six points each. McDaniel pulled down nine rebounds, while Beer had two steals, and Beer and Mayberry each had two assists.

TU shot 30-percent from the field, 44-percent from behind the arc and 52-percent from the charity stripe. Tulsa out-rebounded UAB, 39-27, but the Blazers had 12-7 lead in steals and an 11-1 advantage in blocks.

The Golden Hurricane jumped out to an 8-0 lead and led the game for the first 13:41 of the contest, but LaShaunda Pratt hit a jumper at the 6:19 mark to give UAB a 19-18 advantage. Both teams traded baskets and the game was tied twice before the Blazers took a 23-21 lead into the break.

UAB inched ahead throughout the second half to claim the 23-point victory, outscoring TU 36-15 in the final 20 minutes.

The Blazers were led by Karisma Chapman with 20 points, followed by Pratt with 13 and Amber Jones with 11. Meagan Brown had seven rebounds and five blocks, while Pratt had four steals.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, February 13th against SMU. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.
