Tulsa Women Golfers Open Spring Season on Sunday

Victoria, Texas - The Tulsa women's golf team opens the 2011 spring schedule with an appearance at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate on Sunday, Feb. 13th. The tournament consists of two rounds on Sunday and one round concluding the tournament on Monday, Feb. 14th at the Victoria Country Club.
The par-72, 6,028-yard course will play host to a field of 17 teams, including top-100 teams Tulsa, North Texas, Kansas, Toledo, UTEP, Sam Houston and Missouri State.
The Hurricane is led by sophomore Kristina Merkle, who averaged a team-best 74.2 stroke average in 12 rounds during the fall season, and junior Marita Engzelius had a stroke average of 75.2 in the fall.
Merkle placed among the top-5 in three of Tulsa's four fall tournaments, finishing in second place at both the ORU Shootout and Dale McNamara Invitational, as well as fourth-place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Intercollegiate. Engzelius had three top-20 performances in four fall events., including capturing first place at the OSU Shootout.
Engzelius and Merkle will be joined in the lineup by freshman Charlotte Brooks and juniors Sarah Elliot and Kamryn Ruffin. Freshman Nanna Nielsen will play as an individual.
In the four fall tournaments, the Hurricane finished first, third, fourth and eighth place, respectively, as a team. Tulsa captured the team championship at the ORU Shootout.
The Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate is in its' fourth season, as host Texas State captured the team title in 2009 and 2010, while Sam Houston State won the 2008 crown.
