IRVING, Texas - Marcelo Arevalo was named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.

The sophomore for The University of Tulsa men's tennis team had a near-flawless performance on the court this past week in leading Tulsa to a 6-1 victory over Conference USA foe Tulane.

He lost just two games overall as he cruised to two wins over the Green Wave.

In singles action, Arevalo topped Idan Mark 6-0, 6-1 from the top spot. Arevalo is currently ranked No. 46 in the nation and is 9-2 in his last 11 matches.

Arevalo teamed with freshman Japie De Klerk to post an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Takuma Ohashi and Holger Norregaard. Arevalo and De Klerk are ranked No. 86 in doubles and are 11-0 as a tandem.

The sophomore takes his third Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the fifth of his career.

TU has won 11 of its last 12 matches, with six wins coming over ranked opponents.

Tulsa has owned the weekly C-USA honor this semester, as the men have been bestowed the award on eight of the 10 possible weeks, which includes the last six weeks.

This is the second-straight honor for Arevalo, and he also won the award on Feb. 1.

Other award winners this semester include De Klerk (Jan. 25, March 1), junior Ashley Watling (March 8, March 15) and sophomore Clifford Marsland (Feb. 22).
