Tulsa Faces East Carolina in Conference USA Championship First Round

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team will take on East Carolina in the first round of the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday, March 9th. Game time is set for 6 p.m. Central at the Memorial Gym in El Paso, Texas.
The Golden Hurricane has a 5-19 overall record and concluded league play with a 1-15 mark. TU ranks first in Steals (11.5) and Offensive Rebounds (17.4), third in Offensive Rebound Percentage (.391), and fifth in Turnover Margin (+2.1) and Rebounding Offense (39.8) among the league.
Tulsa is led by Taleya Mayberry who posts 14.8 points per game, while Chanice Scott and Loren McDaniel average 7.6 ppg and 7.4 ppg, respectively. Mayberry also owns 75 assists and 74 steals, and McDaniel has 6.2 rebounds per game and 12 blocks.
TU is making its sixth appearance in the Conference USA Championship this season, and has a 5-4 record in tournament play. The Golden Hurricane has advanced past the first round in three of the five seasons, clinched the tournament title in 2006 and has hosted the league championship twice (2007, 2010).
Memorial Gym (capacity 5,200), which now houses the UTEP volleyball program, has a storied basketball history to it. The venue was the home of the Miners' men's basketball team for many years, including the 1966 NCAA Championship Team. UTEP moved into the Don Haskins Center full time for the start of the 1991-92 season.
The Pirates have a 15-14 overall record and concluded league play with a 9-7 mark in C-USA. ECU won its last three contests, including wins over Tulsa, Marshall and UAB. East Carolina is led by Kim Gay with 11.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game, while Ashley Clarke averages 9.2 ppg, and has 104 assists and 62 steals. Jean Best leads East Carolina with 42 blocks.
This will be the eighth meeting between the Golden Hurricane and the Pirates, as TU has a 4-3 lead in the all-time series. ECU won the previous match up this season, a 65-55 decision in Greenville, N.C.
