IRVING, Texas - Three University of Tulsa women golfers earned all-Conference USA accolades as the league announced its 2011 Women's Golf All-Conference First, Second and Third Teams today.
Sophomore Kristina Merkle earned first-team honors for the second straight season, while juniors Marita Engzelius is a second team selection and Kamryn Ruffin has been named to the third team.
Merkle earned her fifth top-10 finish of the season as she placed ninth at the C-USA Championship last week. Merkle posted back-to-back runner-up finishes in the fall, one of which helped the Golden Hurricane to take the team title at the ORU Shootout.
Engzelius won C-USA all-tournament team honors after finishing in third place at the C-USA Championship. She has placed among the top-25 in eight of nine tournaments this year, and among the top-5 three times.
From nearby Pryor, Oklahoma, Ruffin has placed among the top-20 in five tournaments this season. She tied for first place at the Claud Jacobs Invitational, while finishing in eighth place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in the season opener.
Tulsa will be in action next at the NCAA West Regional, May 5-7, at the Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Washington.
