TULSA, OKLA. - Former University of Tulsa great Arnau Brugues is having an extremely successful start to the 2011 campaign.

In seven tournaments played this season, Brugues has already won two event titles and advanced to a final in a third.

His latest triumph was in Oklahoma City this past weekend when he won the USTA sponsored Oklahoma City Open.

He began the tournament by defeating Haydn Lewis of Barbados (ranked No. 1,156 in the world) 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

He followed up his sluggish start with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Ukraine (553). Nedovyesov is a former No. 1 of Oklahoma State.

Brugues trumped American Greg Ouellette (296) in the quarterfinals 6-0, 4-0, retired, and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jimmy Wang of Taiwan (710) in the semis.

He captured the championship with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Bulgarian Dimitar Kutrosvky (558), who is a former No. 1 for Texas.

Brugues is currently ranked No. 375 in the world and has posted a 16-4 record in 2011. He is in Little Rock, Ark., facing off with Nima Roshan of Australia (764) in the opening round of the 2011 St. Vincent Tour De Paul Tennis Tournament.
