Tulsa Women Golfers off to NCAA West Regional

Seattle, Wash. - The Tulsa women's golf team is one of 24 teams competing at the NCAA West Regional this week, Thurs-Sat., May 5-7, at the par-72 Washington National Golf Club.
The top eight teams and top two individuals on non-advancing squads will all move onto the NCAA Championship being held at Texas A&M's Legends Course from May 18-21.
Tulsa is making its 32nd national tournament appearance and in the 19 years of the NCAA regional format Tulsa is making its' 16th regional and fourth in a row. Tulsa looks to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals for the first time since 2008.
A year ago, Tulsa finished in 20th place at the Central Regional, while freshman Kristina Merkle finished in 45th place individually. This year, Merkle has placed among the top-15 seven times while earning first-team all-Conference USA accolades. Juniors Marita Engzelius and Kamryn Ruffin were named to the C-USA second and third teams, respectively.
The Hurricane goes into the regional having placed second in each of its last two tournaments, including the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate and the Conference USA Championships.
