TU Takes Down Mississippi State 6-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The No. 19-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated Mississippi State 6-1 Saturday morning at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
TU (7-1) swept the doubles point and then took five of six matches against the host Lady Bulldogs (3-3). This was just the second time this year that MSU has lost the doubles point.
The first doubles match went to senior Bonny Davidson and sophomore Samantha Vickers at the second position. They defeated Olesya Tsigvintseva and Naomi Tran 8-2.
The senior duo of Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska topped Khrystyna Pavlyuk and Alexandra Perper 8-4 at the top of the lineup, and junior Michelle Farley and freshman Isaura Enrique made it a clean sweep with an 8-7 (7-4) triumph over Roseline Dion and Ekaterina Iakovleva on the third court.
TU started strong in singles when Farley defeated Pavlyuk 6-1, 6-2 from the fifth court. No. 71-ranked Erofeeva took down Iakovleva 6-1, 6-3 at the top of the order, and the Golden Hurricane clinched the road victory when Szatkowska defeated Tsigvintseva 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Davidson defeated Petra Ferancova 6-1, 7-5 on the sixth court, and Enrique took down Tran 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at the fourth spot to give Tulsa its six points.
The lone tally for the home team came at No. 2 singles, where Perper defeated No. 68 Vickers 6-3, 7-5. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for Vickers.
Tulsa will now travel to Oxford, Miss., tomorrow for a noon showdown with No. 24 Ole Miss.
