Watling Earns Second-Straight C-USA Weekly Honor

Senior Ashley Watling was named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.

IRVING, Texas - Ashley Watling has been named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.

The senior member of the Tulsa men's tennis team won all four of his matches last weekend to help the No. 23-ranked Golden Hurricane split matches with No. 24 Texas Tech and No. 25 San Diego.

Watling upset No. 23 Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, and he concluded his weekend with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over No. 92 Patrick Pohlmann of San Diego.

He and junior Clifford Marsland comprise the third-ranked doubles tandem, and they won both matches 8-4 at the top of the lineup.

Watling owns a 4-2 singles mark and a 5-2 doubles record this spring, and he is currently ranked 83rd in the nation in singles. He is on a three-match win streak in singles and a four-match win streak in doubles.

This is Watling's eighth-career accolade and his second in as many weeks. He won three each his sophomore and junior years.

The TU men play host to Wichita State Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
