TULSA, Okla. - The No. 18-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team was upset by No. 21 Oklahoma 5-2 Tuesday night at Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane (10-8) saw its four-match win streak come to an end, while the Sooners (10-3) upped their current win streak to four matches.
OU began proceedings by sweeping the doubles point. Lawrence Formentera and David Pultr started play by defeating junior Tristan Jackson and freshman Lucian Gheorghe 8-1 on the third court.
The No. 71-ranked team of Tsvetan Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong defeated junior Grant Ive and freshman Alejandro Espejo 8-5 at the second flight.
No. 13 Costin Paval and Dane Webb upset the fourth-ranked team of senior Ashley Watling and junior Clifford Marsland 8-6 at the top court.
Tulsa evened the match at 1-1 after Jackson dispatched of Pultr 6-2, 6-1 on the sixth court.
No. 89-ranked Watling gave the home side a brief 2-1 advantage after he defeated Mihov 6-2, 6-4 from the third court, but TU would relinquish the next four courts.
No. 17 Paval topped No. 93 Marsland 6-4, 6-2 on the top court, and No. 90 Guillermo Alcorta upset No. 83-ranked sophomore Japie De Klerk 6-1, 7-5 from the second position.
No. 94 Webb clinched the win for the Sooners after he defeated Ive 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 at the fourth flight.
No. 82 Siributwong ended the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Espejo on the fifth court.
Tulsa will next face No. 75 Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. April 4 at the Case Tennis Center.
