HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - A pair of home runs led Marshall to a 6-0 game-one win over Tulsa at Dot Hicks Field.
Third baseman Jill Barrett, first baseman Shelby Blanton and center fielder Caitlin Everett led the Golden Hurricane (27-9, 10-3 C-USA) with two hits apiece. Aimee Creger (13-4) pitched a complete game in the loss. Andi Williamson (16-10) earned the complete-game win for the Thundering Herd (25-16, 11-5 C-USA).
Marshall took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by first baseman Alsyia Hively. The Herd added an unearned run in the fourth inning when catcher Rebecca Gamby singled and came around to score on a fielder's choice and error.
Tulsa, which totaled six hits and drew four walks in the game, put runners in scoring position in five innings, but was kept from crossing the plate each time. The Hurricane hit the ball hard at times, but right at defenders, including three fly balls to the fence, or deep outfield.
The Herd added three more runs in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 6-0 when third baseman Jazmine Valle hit a three-run home run.
Tickets to TU home softball games are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
