New Orleans, Louisiana - The Tulsa women's golf team finished in 15th place at the rain-shortened Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Hurricane carded a final round 307 for a 613 total at the par-72 English Turn & Country Club.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes as severe storms prevented the teams from getting on the course for second round play on Monday. The teams used an early shotgun start Tuesday to complete the tournament.
Tulsa's Shu-Yin Liu finished in 27th place after carding a final round 77 for a two-round total of 149. Fellow senior Kristina Merkle finished with a score of 152 and in 45th place. Newcomer Heather Smith had the best round of the day for the Hurricane with a three-over par 75 to finish tied for 74th place at 157. Freshman Antonia Von Wnuck also finished the tournament with a score of 157. Karson Bizzell placed 85th overall with a 160 score.
Southern Cal won a playoff against UCLA by one stroke after the two teams tied with 36-hole totals of 580. The teams replayed the 18th hole. USC won the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship for the second time in three years, winning in 2011 as well.
Individually, Baylor's Hayley Davis won medalist honors with a four-under par 140 score.
Tulsa is in action next at the Notre Dame Clover Cup Invitational, March 8-10, at the Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona.
