Tulsa Opens American Athletic Conference Play Against Cincinnati
Tulsa (5-6) will play its first American Athletic Conference game against Cincinnati (3-9, 0-1 The American) on Wednesday, Dec. 31 beginning at 2:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The game can be viewed live for free on the American Digital Network.
The Series
This will be the first meeting between the Golden Hurricane and Bearcats on the women's basketball court.
The Tulsa Connection
Cincinnati assistant coach Aaron Swinson was a former Tulsa women's basketball assistant coach from 2008 to 2011.
Leading the Way
Senior Mariah Turner and junior Ashley Clark are posting double-digit points this season. Clark has a team-high 13.5 ppg, followed by Turner with 13.3 ppg, while Kadan Brady is just under double-figure points with 9.3. Clark has a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game and nine blocks, while Brady has 35 assists and 23 steals.
Scouting the Opponent
The Bearcats have a 3-9 overall record and a 0-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play as they dropped a 60-50 decision to Tulane in their last contest. Ana Owens, Marley Hill and Jasmine Whitfield are all averaging double-digit points with 13.5, 11.7 and 11.5 ppg, respectively. Hill also posts double digit rebounds with 10.0 rebounds per game and has a team-high 11 blocks, while Owens has a team-best 44 assists and Whitfield has 14 steals.
In TU's Last Contest
UALR overcame a one-point halftime deficit and went on for a 66-59 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in front of 906 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. UALR (7-2) added to its wins over No. 24 LSU and Oklahoma with its seventh win, while Tulsa fell to 5-6 overall.
The Trojans dominated the offensive scoring in the paint, out-scoring the Hurricane 48-20 for the game inside the lane, and shooting 53.7-percent overall from the field. Tulsa shot just 37-percent from the field. Kelsee Grovey led the Tulsa attack with 12 points, while Ashley Clark was next with all of her 10 points coming in the second half.
In Tulsa's Top 10
Mariah Turner, Kelsee Grovey, Kadan Brady and Ashley Clark have already earned their way into Tulsa's Top 10 career lists.
Turner is first with a .574 field goal percentage; Grovey is sixth in three-point field goals made (127), three-point field goal percentage (.366) and free throw percentage (.818); Brady is eighth in three-point field goals made (119); and Clark is ninth in double-doubles with seven.
Among the Nation's Best
The Golden Hurricane ranks 63rd nationally with a 43.2 field goal percentage and 64th nationally with a 35.2 three-point field goal percentage. Individually, Kadan Brady is 24th nationally with a 2.69 assist turnover ratio.
Adding Up
Tulsa juniors Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey are looking to join the 1,000 point club this season. Only eight players have scored 1,000 points or more in their careers at Tulsa. Clark currently has 755 points, while Grovey has 781.
