Providence, R.I. - Tulsa senior Akeil Barrett and sophomore Jake McGuire were named as the American Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, as announced today by the league office.
The Golden Hurricane tandem led TU to a 1-1 tie with 2nd-ranked Creighton last week.
Barrett tied the game and forced two overtime periods. Barrett took the ball 45 yards up the field, split the defense, went one-on-one with the keeper and scored from eight yards out at the 53:00 mark. Barrett's goal was the first against the Bluejays this season. Barrett had a team-best five shots for Tulsa.
McGuire played all 110 minutes in goal. He picked up five saves, including three in overtime, and held a team that had averaged 1.75 goals per game to just one goal.
Tulsa will return to action against cross-town rival Oral Roberts on Tuesday, Sept. 16th. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
