Tulsa Travels to East Carolina on Saturday
Tulsa (8-10, 3-4 The American) will take to the road to face East Carolina (13-6, 4-4 The American) on Saturday, Jan. 24. The game, which is the second in a double-header featuring the Tulsa men's basketball team, is set for 1:30 pm Central at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.
The Series
This will be the 15th meeting in the all-time series with East Carolina, as the Pirates have an 8-6 advantage in the series. East Carolina picked up a 77-8 win over TU in Tulsa earlier this season.
Leading the Way
Senior Mariah Turner and juniors Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey are posting double-digit points this season. Clark has a team-high 12.8 ppg, followed by Turner with 12.3 ppg and Grovey with 10.2 ppg. Clark has a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game and 10 blocks, while Kadan Brady has 32 steals and Teanna Reid has 57 assists.
Scouting the Opponent
Jada Payne and I'Tiana Taylor are both averaging double-figures this season for the Pirates, including 17.6 ppg and 10.9 ppg, respectively. Taylor has a team-best 9.8 rebounds per game, Janesha Ebron has 85 assists, Ondrea Shaw has 48 blocks and Jasmine Phillips has 40 steals.
In TU's Last Contest
Shooting struggles plagued Tulsa in a 73-34 loss to Tulane on Tuesday night at Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, La. The Golden Hurricane fell to 8-10 on the season and 3-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Green Wave moved to 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the league.
Tulsa had just 17 points in both halves, while shooting 25-percent from the field (14-of-55), five-percent from three-point range (1-of-20) and 62-percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line.
Mariah Turner had a team-best 12 points and seven rebounds, and Ashley Clark added nine points and seven boards. Clark and Kelsee Grovey each had three steals.
Tulsa forced 22 turnovers on 13 steals, but Tulane forced 23 turnovers and had 10 takeaways. Tulane had a 45-33 lead in rebounds, a 15-7 advantage in assists and a 1-0 lead in blocks.
In Tulsa's Top 10
Mariah Turner, Kelsee Grovey, Kadan Brady and Ashley Clark have already earned their way into Tulsa's Top 10 career lists.
Turner is first with a .563 field goal percentage (299 of 531); Grovey is fifth in three-point field goals made (138), seventh in free throw percentage with a .819 clip (141 of 172), and ninth in three-point field goal percentage with a .362 clip (138 of 381) and in assists (195); Brady is seventh in three-point field goals made (124); and Clark is eighth in double-doubles with eight and 10th in field goals made (322).
Among the Nation's Best
The Golden Hurricane ranks 49th in steals per game (10.5), 73rd in assists per game (14.8) and 75th in field goal percentage (42.2).
Adding Up
Tulsa juniors Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey are looking to join the 1,000 point club this season. Only eight players have scored 1,000 points or more in their careers at Tulsa. Grovey currently has 869 points, while Clark has 837.
