TULSA, Okla. — Senior middle blocker Ashley Hooper recorded 13 kills, seven blocks and hit .379, but it was not enough, as the University of Tulsa volleyball team dropped its American Athletic Conference match to Temple, 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 12-25), Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Junior outside hitter Rebecca Reeve also tallied 13 kills, while junior libero Brooke Berryhill picked up 17 digs for the Golden Hurricane (8-10, 3-3 American). TU hit just .065, with 41 kills and 31 errors on 154 attempts, while the Owls hit .241 (54-22-133) to improve to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

"I think Temple is a good team and we have to give them credit. They played great volleyball today, and they don't have too many weaknesses on their team and they have good ball control," Head Coach Ryan Wills said. "They put a lot of pressure on you to perform at a high level, and not to make mistakes. We came out with a lot of mistakes, and we didn't have the focus or intensity that we needed from the beginning. In the second set, we found a way to have some success early on with Trinity Alualu behind the service line as she rattled off nine or ten points. Fortunately for her (Trinity) play we were able to find a way to win that set at the end of it. Temple dominated the third and fourth sets probably in every facet of the game."

In the first set, Tulsa hit just .079 percent on 12 kills, while Temple hit .241 with 12 kills. The teams battled close through the beginning of the set before the Owls went on a four-point run to take a 16-12 lead. TU got as close as 17-14, but Temple won the set, 25-18.

In the second frame, both teams hit .128, and Tulsa tallied 14 kills, while Temple had 13 kills. The teams were even through the start of the set, but the Golden Hurricane turned up the energy at 9-9, going on a five-point run and forcing a Temple timeout. The Hurricane continued its run with four more points, including two service aces by junior outside hitter Trinity Alualu, before finally allowing a Temple sideout at 18-11. TU led 24-13, but the Owls scored 10 straight points to close to 24-23, before a block by Hooper ended the set, 25-23.

In the third set, Temple hit .226 on 13 kills while limiting the Golden Hurricane to -.059 hitting on seven kills. Hooper led TU in kills in the frame, putting down four of her eight attempts. The Owls scored eight of the last ten points to win the set, 25-16.

Temple took an 11-3 lead to begin the fourth set, forcing a Tulsa timeout. The Golden Hurricane came out of the timeout with a kill from senior middle blocker Ebony Carter, but was unable to keep the momentum, as they fell to the Owls, 25-12. Temple hit .382 on 16 kills in this set, while limiting Tulsa to .086 on 8 kills.

The Golden Hurricane will be on the road next week, playing at USF at 6 p.m. CT Friday in Tampa, Fla., and UCF at 1 p.m. CT Sunday in Orlando.
