Tulsa Volleyball Falls to Temple in Three

Philadelphia, Penn.— The University of Tulsa volleyball team dropped an American Athletic Conference road match against Temple, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21), Friday night in McGonigle Hall. The Golden Hurricane fell to 13-16 overall and 8-9 in the conference, while Temple improved to 22-8 and 13-5 in league play maintaining their second place spot.

Junior outside hitter Rebecca Reeve led the Hurricane offensively picking up 13 kills, while the Hurricane registered a .245 hitting percentage and 37 kills on 110 attempts. The Owls compiled a .315 hitting percentage and 53 kills on 111 attempts.

In the initial frame, the Owls took an early two point lead at 6-4, before extending the lead to four at 14-10 forcing TU to call a timeout. Tulsa trailed by five points late in the set at 20-15, prior to Temple scoring four of the final six points to end the set at 25-18 taking a 1-0 match lead. Reeve picked up four kills in the set, while junior libero Brooke Berryhill tallied four digs.

In the second stanza, the score was tied early at 7-7 and again at the midway point at 13-13. Both teams battled late with tying scores at 19-19 and 20-20, before the Owls took at two point lead at 22-20. Temple maintained their two point lead at set point 24-22, and they went on to win the set 25-22 on a Tulsa attacking error. There were 12 tying scores and seven lead changes in the set.

In the final frame, the Hurricane trailed by two points early with the score at 6-4. Temple extended the lead to seven by the midway point at 14-7. TU was behind as much as eight with the score at 17-9, before fighting back to score 11 out of 17 points to bring them within three at 23-20. Temple went on to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

The Hurricane travels to Mansfeild, Conn. to take on UConn at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22
