TULSA, Okla. – The Univeristy of Tulsa men's tennis team fell to No. 25-ranked Northwestern in a 4-1 decision Friday afternoon at the Akins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill. as part of the 2016 ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
There are 60 schools around the nation that are competing for 15 vacant spots at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship, hosted next month in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The No. 24-ranked Golden Hurricane, 2-1 overall, dropped the first two matches in doubles play giving Northwestern a 1-0 match advantage, which allowed for the final doubles match not to finish play. In singles play, Juan Matias Gonzalez was the only Hurricane to pick up a win giving TU its only point before Northwestern went on to win three straight to end the dual 4-1. There were two singles matches that did not finish play.
