Interview with Coach Gulley | Tulsa Notes for American Athletic Conference Championship

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams seek their third straight American Athletic Conference titles at the conference championship meet Saturday at the Voice of America Metropark in West Chester Township, Ohio, just outside Cincinnati.

The women's 6K race begins at 9 a.m. CT, and the men's 8K race will begin at 9:50 a.m. CT, with the awards ceremony to follow. The races will be streamed live on the American Digital Network.

The No. 22-ranked men's team is looking for its seventh consecutive conference championship, which includes each of the last two in the American Athletic Conference. The women's team is seeking its fourth straight conference championship. Tulsa has won both the men's and women's titles in each of its two years in The American. The men's team is ranked No. 3 in the Midwest Region, while the women's squad is ranked No. 6 in the region.

The Hurricane men's team is led by senior Luke Traynor, who has been the team's top runner this season, registering an 11th-place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, and finished third in last year's conference championship. Junior Ben Preisner and senior Adam Roderique also placed in the top-five last year for TU. Returning all-conference performers from 2015 include: Traynor, Preisner, Roderique, sophomore Austin Del Rosso and junior Elijah Silva.

The women's team is led by senior Clara Langley, who won the Cowboy Jamboree in September, and paces a squad that returns four of its five scorers from the conference championship last season. Langley (14th), along with senior Stacie Taylor (fifth), junior Nicole Lee (sixth) and sophomore Alyssa Bolliger (18th) led the Hurricane to the 2015 title. Langley, Taylor and Lee are all-conference performers returning from 2015.

Tulsa last ran at the Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 14, where the men's team finished 13th, finished ahead of seven higher-ranked opponents among the 30 teams in the race, and the women's team placed 25th.
