MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Tulsa men's tennis team was in action Friday as it took part in day two of the ITA Regionals. Tulsa won two singles matches in the second round and won one doubles match. Majed Kilani knocked off the No. 1 seed Julian Cash from OSU (1-6, 7-5, 6-3), to advance to the round of 16.
In the second round of singles play, Majed Kilani faced Lukas Buth of North Dakota. Kilani surrendered just three games as he won the match, 6-1 and 6-2. Joshua Goodger needed just two sets as he defeated William Grattan-Smith of Nebraska, 6-2 and 6-3.
Kilani would face the No. 1 seed in Julian Cash of OSU in the third round. Cash took the first set, 6-1. Kilani regained focus and won the second set, 7-5, to force a third and final set. In the final set, Kilani used the momentum from the second set and went on to win the third, 6-3. Goodger had a matchup with the No. 3 seed Matic Spec of Minnesota. Spec knocked off Goodger in two sets, 6-4 and 6-4.
In doubles action, the tandem of Kilani and Jarod Hing faced Jake Jacoby and Jonas Larsen of Iowa. The Tulsa duo defeated the pair from Iowa, 8-4. Goodger and teammate Boriss Kamdem faced the No. 2 seed from Arkansas, Jose Salazar and Adam Sanjurjo. The Arkansas team defeated TU, 8-3.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action Saturday, Oct. 21, in the round of 16 of singles and for the round of 16 of doubles. In the singles draw, Kilani will battle Arkansas' Oscar Mesquido, the No. 13 seed. In the round of 16 doubles draw, Kilani and Hing will face the No. 3 duo from Minnesota, Felix Corwin and Matic Spec. Times to be announced later.
