TULSA, Okla. – Majed Kilani, who was an automatic qualifier for the main draw and Joshua Goodger, who had to win three matches to earn a spot in the main draw, represented Tulsa men's tennis in the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American main draw for a second day on Friday. Kilani was defeated in the second round of the main draw by #43 Alexis Galarneau (N.C. State), 6-2 and 6-2. Goodger was knocked off by #48 Robert Kelly (UNC), 6-2 and 6-4.
Majed Kilani faced the No. 43 ranked player by the ITA, Alexis Galarneau of N.C State, in the second round of the main draw. Kilani managed to break Galarneau's first serve to take a first set lead, 1-0. Galarneau returned the favor and broke Kilani's serve to tie the set at 1-1. The two remained on serve at 3-2, but Galarneau broke Kilani's serve again to extend his lead to 4-2. With the first set score at 5-2, Galarneau broke Kilani's serve for a third time in the first set, and took the first set, 6-2. Galarneua held a slight edge, 2-1, and then broke Kilani's serve to take a 3-1 lead in the second set. With the second set at 4-1, Kilani was broke by Galarneua for a second time in the set and extended his lead to, 5-1. Kilani did not give up and broke Galarneau's serve to make the second set, 5-2. Galarneau managed to break Kilani's serve one more time and won the second set, 6-2. Galarneau took the match, 6-2 and 6-2.
Joshua Goodger faced the ITA's No. 48 ranked player in Robert Kelly of North Carolina in the consolation draw. Kelly was able to break Goodger's first serve and took an early 1-0 lead in the first set. The two then stayed on serve until the score was 3-1, in favor of Kelly. Kelly broke Goodger's serve and took a 4-1 lead. After Kelly won a game on serve, Goodger was able to take a game on serve as well, and made the first set 5-2, in Kelly's favor. Kelly went on to win a game on his next serve and won the first set, 6-2. Kelly broke Goodger's serve to start the second set. With the set at 2-1, in favor of Kelly, Goodger broke his serve to tie the second set at, 2-2. Kelly managed to break Goodger's serve, but Goodger was resilient and broke Kellly's serve to tie the match at 3-3. With the second set at 4-4, Kelly broke serve again and took a 5-4 lead. Kelly took the next game, which won the second set, 6-4. Kelly won the match, 6-2 and 6-4.
In doubles action Lucca Baptista and Joshua Goodger took on North Florida's Jefta Kecic and Lassee Muscheites. Each pair won its first two games on serve, which made the first set tied at 2-2. UNF managed to break the Tulsa serve, to gain a 3-2 lead. UNF won a game on serve, followed by a game won on serve by the Golden Hurricane, which made the set, 4-3. UNF won another game on serve, before it broke the Tulsa serve and took the first set, 6-3. In the second set, the Golden Hurricane fell, 6-1.
Tulsa returns to action at the Houston Futures event in Houston, Texas, on Monday, Oct. 9.
