Marcelo Arevalo Wins Milo Open

BOGOTA, Colombia – Former University of Tulsa men's tennis team member Marcelo Arevalo won the Milo Open on the ATP Challenger Tour. Arevalo played two seasons at Tulsa (2009-11) before turning professional.
 
En route to the championship match, Arevale knocked off the No. 4 seed Nicolas Jarry in the opening round in two sets (7-6(14-12), 6-2). In the second round of the tournament, he defeated Gonzalo Escobar in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-3). After losing the first set to Gerald Melzer, Arevalo battled back to win the match in three sets (1-6, 6-1, 6-2). In the semifinals, he defeated the No. 1 seed, Victor Estrella Burgos in just two sets (6-3, 6-3), to make it to the finals.
 
Arevalo faced Daniel Elahi Galan in the finals of the Milo Open, where he only needed two sets to win the Open. He won the first set, 7-5, and ended the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Arevalo took home $50,000 for winning the tournament.
