
Tulsa Women’s Hoops Drop 70-39 Decision to Tulane

The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 70-39 decision to Tulane on Sunday afternoon at Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, La. The Golden Hurricane fell to 8-12 on the season and 2-5 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Green Wave moved to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Rebecca Lescay had a team-best nine points and six steals, while Alexis Gaulden and Crystal Polk each tallied seven points, and Erika Wakefield added six. Tyjae' Scales pulled down nine rebounds in the contest.
The Green Wave had a 46-34 lead in rebounds, a 20-6 advantage in assists and a 5-2 edge in blocks, while both teams had nine steals.
Tulsa, who averaged 32-percent from three-point range and 5.3 treys a game, went 2-for-24 in the contest for just 8.3-percent, while also shooting just 22-percent from the field and 56-percent (9-of-16) from the charity stripe, while Tulane shot 47-percent from the field, 35-percent from behind the arc and 91-percent (11-of-12) from the free throw line.
Both teams got off to a rough start, going 1-of-8 to begin the contest on both ends of the court, but after a tied score at the 5:01 mark (4-4), Tulane went on a 10-0 run for a 14-4 lead at the end of the first frame.
Tulsa began the second quarter shooting 62-percent (5-of-8) in the first 5:16 off the clock to trail 25-14, but hit just one of their last seven attempts to close out the frame down 37-16.
Gaulden hit the Golden Hurricane's first three-point basket at the 7:37 mark of the third quarter, after Tulsa missed its first 13 attempts. The Hurricane trailed 53-30 with 10 minutes to play.
Tulsa hit 4-of-6 free throws in the first six minutes of the final quarter, as Scales hit the Hurricane's first field goal at the 3:35 mark and Polk had the only other basket with 49-seconds to play.
The Green Wave was led by Kolby Morgan with 17 points, while Tatyana Lofton contributed 13. Harlyn Wyatt pulled down nine rebounds and Lofton added eight.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, January 27 against UCF. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
