Golden Hurricane Starts Strong on Day One of ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis squad picked up six singles victories and a flawless 2-0 record in doubles play on the first day of the ITA Central Regional at the Case Tennis Center on Thursday.
To kick off the tournament for the Golden Hurricane, junior Jarod Hing and sophomore Boriss Kamdem won convincingly in their matches. Hing took down Hugo Piles of Nebraska-Omaha, 6-3, 6-0, while Kamdem would follow suit, defeating Piotr Smietana (Iowa), 6-4, 6-1.
Joshua Goodger and Majed Kilani would also go on to clinch their matches later in the first day. Goodger proved dominant over Wichita State's Eddie Stoica, 7-5, 6-2, while Kilani handled Kaleb Dobbs of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Kilani/Kody Pearson took down Daniel Izadifar/Neil O'Connor of UMKC in with relative ease, 8-3. Kamdem and Tom Thelwall-Jones found themselves in a back-and-forth battle with Vlad Lobak and Sebastian Vile of Minnesota. The Tulsa duo managed to edge out Minnesota's pair, 8-7(0).
In out-of-bracket matches, Daniel Siddall nabbed a victory due to injury over Ben Stride of UMKC. In the final match of the night, Thelwall-Jones took down Nebraska's Alvaro Moreno, 6-4, 6-2, to close out a productive day for TU.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT in Tulsa with doubles action, with draws to be announced later this evening.
This marks the 10th time in program history Tulsa serves as the official Regional host.
