Tulsa Men’s Tennis Concludes Qualifying Round of ITA All-American Championships

10/2/2018 3:20:00 PM | Men's Tennis

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis squad wrapped up the qualifying round of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday.

Jarod Hing was the lone Tulsa victory of the day, as he clinched a back-and-forth match in the consolation bracket this afternoon, 7-6, 7-6. Hing rebounded today after falling in his singles match on Monday morning.

Joshua Goodger kicked the day off for the Golden Hurricane, falling to Clement Marzol of South Alabama, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6. Goodger gained momentum from the start, going up 4-1 in the first set to take control, but Marzol, ranked in the top 125 in the preseason Oracle ITA singles rankings, would eventually edge out Goodger.

Boriss Kamdem played another tight match for Tulsa, but dropped it to Tim Handel (Northern Arizona), 6-2, 3-6, 4-6. Kamdem's strong serve held true, but Handel kept the match close and took down the Belgium native in the third set.

Newcomer Daniel Siddall squared off with Duke's Nick Stachowiak, who entered the fall season ranked No. 87 by the Oracle ITA preseason singles ranking. Siddall struggled to find his usual rhythm, falling in his match, 2-6, 0-6.

Tomorrow is a break in the tournament, as the main draw is set to kick off on Thursday, Oct. 4 with times TBA. Majed Kilani and Kody Pearson have already booked their spots in the main draw, while the doubles tandem of Hing/Siddall is also entered.
