TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held at the Golf Club at Audubon Park in New Orleans, La.
The women's 6K race will start at 8 a.m., followed by the men's 8K run at 8:50 a.m. and both races will be streamed live on facebook via the American Digital Network.
The Golden Hurricane men's squad has won all four American Championships since joining the league in 2014 after claiming Conference USA titles from 2010-13. The team will be in search of its ninth consecutive conference crown and enters the meet with the highest regional ranking of any team in The American, ranking third in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region poll.
This will be the first race for the TU men and women since the Sept. 28 Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. In a loaded field with more than 15 ranked teams, the TU men finished 21st, while the women's squad finished 28th.
Peter Lynch has led the men's squad in each of the last two races as he finished third at the Missouri Southern Stampede before a 69th-place showing at the Nuttycombe Invitational. He lowered his 8K time by 41 seconds from race to race, crossing the line in Wisconsin at 24:15.0.
Meanwhile, Reagan Hausmann also has paced the women's team for two of the three races this fall. Hausmann finished fourth at the season-opening Hurricane Invitational before taking the top spot on the podium at the Missouri Southern Stampede. Caitlin Klopfer also has had a strong season with a second-place finish in Missouri along with a team-leading time of 21:05.7 in Wisconsin.
At last year's American Championships, four TU men finished in the top 15 to earn all-conference recognition, including Scott Beattie, who was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Beattie is the only returner from that group, while the women's team returns much of its team, which placed fourth.
