Tulsa Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep with Win Over UConn

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (16-7, 8-3) edged out UConn (11-3, 3-8), 3-1, in a conference clash on Sunday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
With the win, the Golden Hurricane improves to 10-1 inside the Reynolds Center this season.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythms in the first set, but solid defensive play at the net from Tulsa allowed the Hurricane to secure set one, 25-18. The Hurricane managed three total team blocks in the frame.
In the second set, the Huskies took the set in a back-and-forth battle, 26-24. Freshman Elyse Savadove took over offensively in the stanza, tallying five kills on nine swings for a solid .556 hitting percentage.
Tulsa regained momentum to take set three, 25-21, on the coattail of senior Rachel Moore. Moore put down four kills in the frame, while junior Taylor Horsfall rallied for seven digs in the set.
The fourth and final set unfolded in rallies, as the Golden Hurricane clinched the match on a 4-0 run to take down UConn in the final set, 25-22. Moore once again hit with efficiency, knocking down a team-high five kills on six attempts for a remarkable .833 hitting percentage.
As a whole, TU accumulated 43 kills, 59 digs and nine total team blocks. Moore recorded her eighth double-double of 2018, racking up 10 kills and 11 digs. Savadove paced the Hurricane in kills, adding 11 on a team-high .346 clip.
Head coach Ryan Wills' bunch hits the road once again next weekend for American matches at ECU (12-9, 4-6) on Friday, Nov. 2, and Cincinnati (19-5, 9-1) on Sunday, Nov. 4.
