The Tulsa women's basketball team signed Emma Duerr and Destiny Johnson to national letters-of-intent, as announced today by Head Coach Matilda Mossman

"Both of these young women fulfill the role of "student-athlete"," Mossman said.  "They are as committed to academics as they are athletics.  Both come from wonderful families and are amazing people, and we can't wait to get them on campus to get to work!"

A 6-3 forward from Long Valley, N.J., Duerr is a three-year letterwinner at Morris Catholic High School.  She has helped MCHS post 66 wins and claim three New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.  Duerr has tallied 580 points, 380 rebounds, 60 steals, 55 assists and 44 blocks in three seasons at MCHS, and has been a three-time all-conference honoree.

"Emma is not afraid to bang with more physical players inside, and can also step out and shoot the three," Mossman said.  "She has great hands and plays with a high IQ.  Emma is a tremendous person, and is very bought-in to the "Team" concept and the team's culture and values.  She plays for others.  She is very driven and wants to be the best she can be."

"Emma is a highly-skilled big who has the ability to shoot the three," Morris Catholic High School Head Coach Billy Lovett said.  "She is an extremely hard worker, and she will bring that hard work and determination to the gym every day as she looks to be a contributor as a freshman.  Emma is a great kid, and what I've seen is that she is a tremendous leader and she pushes her teammates to get better every day."

Johnson, a 5-8 guard from Sand Springs, Okla., is a three-year letterwinner at Charles Page High School.  She has led CPHS to 59 wins and the Oklahoma Class 6A tournament as a sophomore and junior.  Johnson has totaled 863 points, 321 rebounds, 150 assists, 140 steals and 56 blocks in her career, including 16.3 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game as a junior.

"We are so excited that Destiny chose to become a Golden Hurricane," Mossman said.  "She is a combo guard that plays with a high motor and is one of the fastest guards in the state.  Destiny can attack the basket and finish through contact.  She has really worked hard on her outside shot so she can extend defenses, and she plays with great tenacity and will not back down from a challenge."

"Destiny is an awesome kid, amazingly athletic, super skilled and talented," Charles Page Head Coach Tobey Nightingale said.  "She is a hard worker and you can count on her.  She is a very good point guard with good awareness, and is a good teammate.  Destiny does all the little things as a point guard that are important, and will make an impact and have a great career at TU."
