Tulsa Drops Heartbreaker to No. 42 UCF in American Quarterfinals

DALLAS, Texas – The Tulsa men's tennis team (11-7) battled the No. 42 ranked UCF Knights (11-9) in the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the SMU Crum Tennis Courts on Friday. Majed Kilani, Jarod Hing and Boriss Kamdem all collected singles match victories, but the Hurricane fell to UCF, 4-3.
The No. 3 ranked tandem in the country, Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa, won the No. 1 doubles match against the No. 73 duo, Joshua Goodger and Jarod Hing, 6-3. In the No. 3 matchup, Danny Kerznerman and Gabriel DeCamps beat Louis Corker and Mitchell Pritchard, 6-0. The Knights held a 1-0 lead as the match went to singles play.
In the No. 6 singles match, Kamdem rolled to a 6-3 first-set victory against Kerznerman. Kamdem used the momentum from the first set and claimed the second by the same score, 6-3. Kamdem improved to 7-7 on the season in dual match singles play and tied the overall match at 1-1.
The No. 81 ranked Kilani took the opening set of the No. 1 singles match against Lovett, 7-5. Kilani managed to distance himself in the second, as he stormed away with a 6-2 decision. Kilani is now 16-6 in singles play, but more importantly he gave TU its first lead of the match, 2-1.
Mikhail Sokolovskiy ran away with a 6-1 victory in the first set against Hing in the No. 4 spot. Hing was resilient and bulldozed his way to a 6-1 win in the second. In the third and final set, Hing pulled away with a 6-2 decision. Hing's victory put TU on top, 3-1, and he improved to 9-14 on the season in dual competition.
Vasa started UCF's comeback with a 6-2 and 6-4 win against Pritchard in the No. 5 match. DeCamps claimed a three-set decision against the No. 93 Goodger, 3-6, 6-3, and 6-4. Alan Rubio defeated Lucca Baptista, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), and 6-4, as he clinched the match for the Knights.
Tulsa concludes the year with an 11-17 record. Kilani ended the season on a four-match winning streak in dual singles match play. As a unit, the Golden Hurricane captured 67 singles victories and 17 wins in doubles action in dual matches this season.
