NORMAN, Okla. — Paige Lowary tossed a one-hit shutout as No. 4 overall seed Oklahoma moved to the championship round of the NCAA Norman Regional with an 8-0 run-rule victory over Tulsa on Saturday evening at Marita Hynes Field.
With the setback, the Golden Hurricane (34-24) will face either Missouri or Boston University on Saturday night at 9 p.m. in an elimination game.
Tulsa put pressure on the Sooners (52-3) early as Shelby Estocado reached and stole second. However, Lowary got a grounder to end the inning and the threat.
TU starter Emily Watson retired the first six batters that she faced, but Falepolima Aviu took the first pitch of the top of the third over the wall in right center for a solo homer. The shot was her fourth of the season and it gave Oklahoma a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the lead grew to 3-0 when Jocelyn Alo hit a two-run homer, her 26th round-tripper of the season. Nicole Pendley's solo homer an inning later made it 4-0 and the Sooners added four more runs in the inning against the TU bullpen.
Lowary retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth to seal the run-rule victory for the Sooners. The senior struck out two and allowed one hit over her six scoreless frames to improve to 9-1 on the season.
